With the weight of going back to a comission job weighing over my head, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have some doubting moments since I made my decision. But today I had a thought:

Kinja'd!!!

When I sold cars before, if I had a night where I just felt like a steak, I had a steak. Was I eating at Ruth Chris every night? Absolutely not. But I had the money that if I wanted to go to Logan’s or Outback and indulge in a meaty delight, it was nothing. Considering we’ve been eating 99 percent of our meals at home, and purchasing them in the cheapest ways possible to begin with, it shows a big difference in what my earning potential is at a dealer. I dunno about you guys, but starting again in September, I’m having steak!

Dude, it sounds like you weren’t too shabby at this before, and you love it, which is a recipe for being awesome. Don’t worry so much, it’ll be fiiiiiiine!

That was more or less the conclusion I came to today. Thanks for the encouragement!

If your new gig was in my price range I would come to you with my post dieselgate dollars in October but I don’t think I can make it work.

Well, I’ll be doing Mini as well. So if price is a concern, there is a new car alternative.

I’ll pass on the Mini, thanks though.

What were you selling at your prior sales job?

Cadillacs

I think BMWs and even Minis might be an easier sell. Not sure how the commission is structured but don’t think the German 3 have any issues getting their cars off or upselling those 7 Series/S Class buyers.

And most people who want a Mini, truly want a Mini.

Basically I think you're going to do a stellar job if you sold Cadillacs.

Thank you sir. And the new pay plan is strong like bull. At Cadillac they were always trying to take money out of you for their expenses. It can’t be that bad...

You’re moving up into a different world from anything you’ve sold before. If you put half the effort in as before I think you will find yourself content with your income. Just imagine if you put in the same effort.

I’ve worked non-German dealers and shops as well. Lots of them. Kept moving until I found what I was looking for. BMW/MB/Audi are really on a completely different from everyone else. High enough volume you’re never standing around, wealthy enough customer base and good enough product that you never really have to work as hard as at most other lines to make a sale. The real work comes in keeping the customer happy.
